The Aryan cup of the dairy cooperative Bayerische Milchindustrie (BMI) is recognized with the German Packaging Prize 2018 in the category Design & Refinement. Greiner Packaging located in Kremsmünster, Austria, is responsible for the new cup.
In 2015, BMI approached Greiner Packaging with the request to give the Ayran drink, a refreshing salty yoghurt drink in Turkey, a new look. The challenge was to base the plastic cup as closely as possible on the design of the original cup – including the characteristic hammertone look.
The indentations on the surface of the cup have – as was the case with the original cup – varying sizes. Transferring this individually to a mass-produced product required a high degree of technical know-how; also indentations made in an injection-molded cup make it more difficult to remove from the equipment, according to the packaging manufacturer.
The jury of the German Packaging Prize 2018 considered that the plastic cup reconstructs the traditional drinking cup and make it stand-out on the shelf, while at the same time emphasizing the product features through its design. According to the experts, the new design attracts a large target group for a traditional drink, while the white color of the cup and good handling underlining the overall concept. De cup is now also produced in a copper-color.
